Empowering Resilience:  Insights from the Women's Walk & Talk Group

Our recent Women's Walk and Talk in People's Park transformed into a powerful forum for discussing resilience, resulting in an unfolding narrative of personal triumphs and lived experiences.

Our conversation centred around resilience, a poignant topic as we were preparing for upcoming workshops in the community. Here's a glimpse into the inspiring thoughts and tips our incredible women shared during our meaningful discussion:

1. Keep Busy, Prioritise Self:
  • Embrace a lifestyle that leaves no room for those causing you distress.
  • Prioritise personal wellbeing; allocate time for your own self-care beyond your roles in life.

2. Set Boundaries and Say No:
  • Establish and maintain boundaries to safeguard emotional wellbeing.
  • Learn to say no when necessary, asserting your needs and priorities.

3. Lean on Support Systems:
  • Family and friends can be lifelines during challenging times.
  • A caring presence can be the catalyst for transformative change.

4. Explore New Hobbies and Courses:
  • Engage in activities that spark passion and learning.
  • Taking up new hobbies or courses can provide a positive outlet for growth.
A story of hope:
One participant shared a deeply personal journey of resilience following the loss of her father, which plunged her into a state of depression. Struggling with grief and low mood, her husband recognised the need for support. He knew how much she enjoyed baking and enrolled her into an Adult Education course, encouraging her to attend just one session.

To her surprise, that single session ignited a spark within her. Over the next three years, she immersed herself in learning, up-skilling, and rediscovering her passions. She firmly believes that her husband's unwavering support and gentle nudging towards her interests played a pivotal role in rebuilding her resilience and reclaiming her true self.

The stories shared during our Women's Walk and Talk were nothing short of awe-inspiring. The strength, courage, and tenacity displayed by these women in the face of adversity are simply amazing.
