Befriending

Like Minds Befriending Service

At Healthy Minds, we understand the power of genuine connection - especially when it comes to mental health. Our distinctive Like Minds Befriending project bridges the gap by linking individuals with our dedicated volunteers who share their own lived experiences of mental health challenges.

Understanding through experience:
Befriending isn't just about offering support - it's about nurturing understanding through shared experiences. Our volunteers have walked similar paths, and they are here to extend empathy and compassion.

A listening ear and a caring heart:
Our trained Befrienders are more than just listeners - they are companions on your journey. They offer an open, non-judgmental space for you to express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

Empowerment through connection:
Unlike formal treatment or advice, our Befrienders provide a safe haven for open conversations. It's about finding comfort in knowing you're not alone, and that someone truly understands what you're going through. This unique connection empowers you to navigate your experiences on your terms.

How it works:

LikeMinds Befriending is a telephone 1 to 1 support service. We train volunteers with lived experience of mental distress to become Peer Supporters for people experiencing mental distress/ ill health, and isolation.  These peer supporters are then matched to individuals and offer up to 1 hour of telephone support once a week.

Referrals:

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept self-referrals or referrals from outside of our referral partner Calderdale Crisis support  ( IHBTT ).
