Time OutListening Line from 20 May 2020, 1-4pm
01422 345154 Whilst we are in a period of lockdown, the work that Time Out was doing in schools has been put on hold. During this time we recognise that there are still children and young people in Calderdale who need support in this time of uncertainty. In order to try and support some of these young people we are piloting a weekly phone line every Wednesday from 1pm-4pm. The idea is that the Listening Line will give young people the opportunity to get some simple advice and guidance about how to keep busy and reduce their anxiety about the current situation. The Listening Line is not counselling, nor is it for young people who are in crisis and who need a more in-depth assessment and intervention. We are hopeful that this additional service will act as prevention and reduce the need for more intensive support at a later date. Healthy Minds Children’s Safeguarding Lead is working on the service, as well as the Time Out Team Leader. We have a clear referral pathway to follow for any concerns. We are working alongside the Open Minds Partnership (CAMHS) First Point of Contact to ensure that any mental health concerns are addressed, and will signpost/refer to other services where appropriate. If you have any questions about this please contact tara@healthymindscalderdale.co.uk or peter@healthymindscalderdale.co.uk Time Out, new from Healthy Minds, gives young people aged 10-19 access to a range of activities such as arts and crafts, sports and outdoors or singing and drama. Young people have been the driving force behind a project designed to help you “find your thing” in order to feel good and stay well.
Time Out links up organisations across Calderdale who work with young people, for example Orange Box, The Artworks, Calderdale College and Mixenden Activity Centre. Young people can access the website and see at a glance what’s on offer, plus there’s a network of support if they need it. Time Out also runs courses and workshops, both in schools and outside of school hours, on topics relating to emotional wellbeing, such as stress, self-harm and self-esteem. Time Out is a self-referral scheme but we’re happy for organisations to contact us on a young person’s behalf, with their consent. There is also a range of volunteering opportunities for young people, from helping with activities to sitting on the panel to becoming a Time Out rep. We’d love to hear from organisations who would like to become a Time Out partner and young people who are interested in taking part. |
