Volunteering: Support Groups

Support groups are held fortnightly across Calderdale and cover a number of different themes (please see the other sections of the website for details). All the groups are informal and relaxed and each group has a different feel because it’s the people who come along who make and shape the group. Ideally we are looking for volunteers who feel they have a personal understanding of the particular theme of the group and you can volunteer in a number of different ways:

·       Supporting the group members to feel comfortable and relaxed by meeting and greeting, making tea, coffee etc.
·       Co-facilitating or facilitating a group (following training and working to this at your own pace)
·       Helping out with the publicity and marketing of the group
·       Delivering a relevant talk or presentation

NB: We strongly encourage potential volunteers to attend these groups as a participant in their own right prior to becoming a volunteer. This helps you to develop a ‘feel’ for the group, to experience the support of others in a group environment, to observe how others facilitate or support groups and to work out whether you feel it is definitely something you would like to pursue.
